I need to replace stereo in a 2003 Nissan Frontier Pickup.
Truck is old with wind noise, so don't see any reason to spend more money than needed for desired features.
It has been about 20 years since I have bought a car stereo, so I am "out of the loop".
It looks like Crutchfield continues to have a system for identifying which stereos would fit with installation kits.
Key Features:
1) Would like to keep steering wheel controls
2) Be able to play CD
3) Be able to play from tablet or phone (either corded or BT)
So, using Crutchfield and looking for a unit that minimally satisfies, I get the following unit for $80 plus $43 installation kit ($13 for kit without steering wheel controls).

Before I pull the trigger, I want to double check my approach/decision with someone "in the loop":
1) Is JVC still a good brand?
2) Will the steering wheel controls turn out to be a royal pain to install/set up? (at $30 extra for installation kit it is already "on thin ice").
3) Is Crutchfield decent pricing?
4) Better options?
