I am in the process of speaker shopping for my first home theatre system. I need some help on how to get the best for my money. I have been to best buy and other local retaliers. So far I like the Martin Logan prefcase speakers which are high on my list for my fronts. These speakers came down a lot in price since last year. They are not electrostatic speakers, so i'm not sure if that makes a difference or not.

ML also makes a nice center channel and has some nice subs as well. The only thing that scares me is I don't beleive they make rear speakers, so i'd have to go with a different brand for my rears, and i'm afraid that would hurt the quality since i'd have a differnt brand for the front and different for the rears. A freind of mine told me that should not matter as long as they are timber matched whatever that means. I have also been told you need the proper room austocitcs for a ML set up. I don't want to have to do construction to my home to get speakers sounding the way I want.

Other brands I am considering are Definitive Techology. I heard some of their speakers already and they sound awsome, but may be out of my price range. I'm not ruling them out yet. I have also been told some definitive technology speakers have built in subs, so that would elminiate me having to purchase a sub a savings their. Howver someone just told me getting a seprate sub would be better.

The other brand I am going to consider is paradigm which I havent had the chance to sample yet. Also once I get the speakers home and I hook them up to my receiver are they going to sound different than in the store?

Before I make this decision I want to be able to go to a store where I can spend some time listening to different music and sounds on different brands of speakers before I make the decisison. I am definately serious I just need to find the right store who will spend the time with me.

Please advise

They make plenty of "surround speakers". As for their subs (I own 3), you would be better served looking at some of the ID companies, as to get strong performance you will need to get their top performer/s. Check out the new sub from Epik in the subwoofer forum, introductory price @ 50% off.
