Wanna throw me some educated opinions on this setup...

I know everyone says, "depends on how YOU think they sound" but I am really seeking what others personal opinions are. I am pretty much a noob, and through sale of old basement junk, I'm not out a single dime on all this stuff, so didn't do the listening room thing, just basically looked on craigslist and ebay and said, "I like that"

All Speakers are Boston Acoustics
Fronts - VR960's
Center - switching back and forth between a VR910 and a VRC (not completely set on which I like more)
Surrounds- VR940's

Using the powered subs in the front mains for sub at the moment (wishing I hadn't sold my old Infinity SW12)

Running from a Pioneer Elite VSX92TXh.

I like Bostons. I've owned a pair of VR950s, a VR910, VR10 and a VRC. Both the VR10 and 910 were a good timbre match for my 950s And I would think the VRC is close. I sold the 910 and 950s with a clear conscience that I was doing right by the buyer. The VR10 lives on in my bedroom matched with a pair of CS26 bookshelves, and the VRC is being used with a pair of VR3 towers.

I think what would bring that system to life is a subwoofer. Something big and beefy enough to really fill your listening space.

Very impressive looking sub, but $1k might be over where I'm looking. There's a Def Tech powerfield 1500 on my local Craigslist for $400 that I'm considering.....or picking up a pair of Behringer amps and processor used from a local studio and building boxes for a pair of Infinity Kappa 12.1s that I already have(found some very planned out enclosure plans on this forum) 2000 watts rms might be impressive since it will only cost me about $500 total.

I have Def Tech speakers (7002s, 2006s, 3000) and they are great. I also had a Def Tech sub (Pro100) -- pretty good, but not great. Some sub venders to stongly consider are SVS and Hsu. SVS makes a more affordable PB10-NSD and they also have b-stock which is minor asthetically flawed but acoustically perfect.

Now you're talkin! Plus the bonus of satisfaction if you build your subs yourself. Seems like you're on the right track. Good luck!

If you have the gumption I would certainly go the DIY route as I'm sure this would yield the best results for your budget. The $500 mark is a tricky price point to get a really good sub. IMO you really need to get into the $700-$1000 range before you get into a really good sub that doesn't have any major compromises. This is different if you go DIY though and also barring finding a really good deal.

Maybe I shouldn't have posted in here.....it says you have to be edumacated?

I'd have a hard time recommending a Polk sub. Instead I'd measure my room and contact the internet direct subwoofer specialists and let them size the sub.
