Wall Plate Recommendations?

I was wondering if anybody had any recomendations on wall plates.
I'm going to be setting up a 7.1 system and was going to put a wall plate behind the receiver (onkyo TX-SR674) to run all the cables to, with my front L&R and center wall mounted and my 4 surrounds ceiling mounted (Polk RM6900+2 surrounds). The mounts I'm getting will hide the wires and I'll be directly connecting to them with locking bannana plugs on all cables.

One I was looking at was http://www.mcminone.com/product.asp?catalog_name=MCMProducts&product_id=50-9021&info=details

Or the cheaper way of just passing the cables through http://www.mcminone.com/product.asp?catalog_name=MCMProducts&product_id=50-8805

Anybody have any suggestions?

The nice part about the "pass through" option is that you don't have to buy a second set of bananas for the cable between the wall and the device. But it doesn't look as clean if it's exposed to view.

That combo wall plate is nice. You'll still need something else if you have any video runs to make. I used the custom installer line from Parts-Express. They use individual Decora style inserts instead if one large plate. That way you can make the box as big as you need.

Thanks for the help

I looked on Parts-Express and I also found a DAYTON WPI-7.1 7.1 CHANNEL WALL PLATE (Part Number 300-618).
[I would've posted the link the it won't let me.]

Has anybody used this or the earlier listed model?

That's what I've purchased for my theater, but haven't installed them yet (house still under construction). Also bought the two and four port versions for behind the speakers.
The connectors seem to work very well with the bananas I use.

I also used the Parts Express wall plates mentioned above. I like them and have had no problems at all with them.

Do it the uber cool way!
Step 1) goto the hardware store and pick up a decora blank plate.
Step 2) grab a big drill bit
Step 3) drill as many holes as you need
Step 4) Run wire threw plate and screw into wall
Heh thats what I ended up breaking down and doing. Its looks great actualy!

I searched all over the net for months and never found what I wanted.
Then one day I spied a selection of audio
wall plates in Radio Shack. Nice quality, 5 way posts on
both sides. Best of all, no waiting for Fedex or UPS.

I went to a local electrical wholesaler who wouldn't sell me any high voltage stuff but was happy to sell me low voltage stuff. They had a good selection (in stock) of blank decora plates that take inserts. I needed a bunch type f and RJ45 inserts and they had them all (the audio runs, speaker and sub are unbroken from amp to speaker). To mount I used retro-fit mud rings bought from the same place. You can get metal ones that you bend but they don't work as well. All the wall plates and inserts were Leviton brand IIRC. If I want speaker binding posts I can go that way anytime.

You might check out local electrical suppliers.

f0am, Have any pics of your custom wall plates? Did you use any silicon caulking or anything to complete a seal, since the connectors are always bigger than the wires themselves?
I love this idea for 2 reasons: It is so much cheaper to buy 1 long cable to run through my wall to my wall-mounted LCD than it is to buy 3 cables of equal total lenth and terminate them at the wall behind my components and again behind the TV. And, if for some reason the connector came loose (especially if I went with HDMI), I might find myself tearing open my wall to reconnect.

Pictures or additional install procedures would be much appreciated. Thanks!

I am waiting for my camera to warm up but I will post pictures of the plates within 20 minutes.

I agree, that looks great. And may I say, those B&W's are beautiful. I'd probably have to sell my car to get some myself. Thank you for the pictures.
