"NEW YORK — Two emergency medical technicians accused of refusing to help a dying pregnant woman are 'inhuman,' her mother said Tuesday as a lawyer for the EMTs argued his clients are being vilified in a rush to judgment.

Cynthia Rennix, the mother of 25-year-old Eutisha Revee Rennix, told The Associated Press that the EMTs shouldn't have taken the jobs if they weren't willing to get involved."

Fire Department spokesman Steve Ritea said that all FDNY members "take an oath to assist others whenever they're in need of emergency medical care. It's their sworn duty."

Very good point. I forgot about that from my business law class.

If they are going to force the requirement that they always provide help, the FDNY should have a hold harmless clause for them.

I believe a law was passed in the 90's that exempts medical personnel from lawsuits if they decide to get involved while off-duty. However, it may only apply to MD's.

Upon further reading it looks like they were also dispatchers not actually emts with little to no experience in the field. Intact they haven't seen field work in more than 6 years. Media is just eating them up for nothing.
