VSX-1325 Audio out to TV

An odd question indeed.

I have a temporary setup as we have just moved and sold my home theatre with the house. I am currently limited to the VSX-1325 and an old Toshiba Cinema Series Rear Projection TV (Kids XBox TV). The Toshiba has no HDMI in/out and only has DVI in and, luckily, I have an HDMI->DVI cable and the video is working fine. Unfortunately, audio does not pass and am looking to find a solution to the problem.

With my current setup, is there a way to send audio out to the TV for it to handle the audio, until I build my home theatre?

Thanks.

Welcome to the forum!

What sorts of audio inputs does your TV have? Assuming that it only has left/right analog audio inputs, you could use the FRONT left/right PRE OUT jacks on the VSX-1325 to send audio to the TV. You'd want to set the receiver audio to "Stereo" so that it converts any surround sound to two-channel. Also, with that type of connection, the audio volume would be affected by the volume control on the receiver and the volume control on the TV.

You need to put an HDMI Audio Extractor on the HDMI out from receiver. Something like this product.

Instead of sending Analog L-R to a receiver, simply route it to the TV.

Player/Source HDMI out to Receiver HDMI In
Receiver HDMI Out to Audio Extractor HDMI in
Audio Extractor HDMI out to TV DVI in (Using existing HDMI to DVI cable)
Audio Extractor Analog out to TV Analog In
