VSX-1014TX vs. Pre/Pro

I'm working on putting a home theater on my basement. I have a Harman Kardon PA5800 5x80W amp I'll be using to power the speakers, and I'm not sure if I should get a dedicated preamp/processor. Right now I'm using the preouts on my VSX-1014TX, but would there be a significant improvement if I went to something like an Outlaw 950 or Rotel RSP-1066? I mean, if the Dolby Digital and DTS signals have the channel information included in them, then wouldn't the preouts on every preamp/proc be the same?

Note: I'll be upgrading the speakers so don't bother posting that the money would be better spent on better speakers ;)

Room treatments and speakers (I know, you are getting new speakers) usually make "significant improvements" in sound quality. Amp/receiver/pre usually don't make that much difference.

there are a few recievers that are better pre/pro's then comprably priced pre/pro's, the VSX-1014TX may be one of those.

i had a 1015 & now have a 1016 used as a preamp with my 5800. it sounds awesome! if i were you, i don't think i would waste the money on a preamp when you already have a great one right there. surely, there are other components in your system that could be more easily justified in upgrading than your 1014.

I think I want one of those receivers. Maybe the VSX-1019 will have HDMI 1.3.:D
