How many feet of speaker wire do you have, this is just a poll, so I get an idea of how much speaker wire I might need in the future, I currently have 100feet, boy I should have gotten more probably.

Approx how many feet do you audio and videoholics have, and what are the disadvantages of using a higher guage speaker wire guage.

I am wondering how to conduct a poll, in a thread.

Use 12ga. You'll be safe.

I have a 270 foot spool, which still has wire on it(6.1 system).

A 100' roll of 14ga. did my 5 speakers in a room approx. 14' x 24'. I haven't had any problems but next time I'll get 12ga. just because...

7.1 system

I used #14AWG for all my surround and surround back channels. #12AWG for the fronts and centre channel. I estimated 150 feet total for my room, which is approximately 11'x22'.

Now, if you were to include all video cables, line level cables, fibre optical cables, and power cables; I'd have to say about 300'. :D

If I ever want to retire I could liquidate my equipement and sell the copper off. :D

I have about 160' of 10 gauge belden speaker cable run through my walls, and then I have short 12 gauge (acoustic research) cables from wall to speakers for fronts and surrounds. My center is hooked up with 14 gauge monster cable.
Whenever I get around to my bedroom system I will probably use about 60-80 feet of 14 gauge cable.

I also have about 400 ft of coax and about 900 ft of cat5 run throughout my first floor with a distribution panel in the basement. These numbers will go up as I still need to wire my 2nd floor.

I have approximately 12' of 12-gauge speaker wire that I picked up at rat shack. wiring 2-channel is so much simpler sometimes. :)

I used 12 gauge Belden from Blue Jeans. I think it was about 140-150' for a 7.1 setup. I got the stuff you can run in walls, even though I didn't, just for ease of re-use later.

I probably used roughly 200' of 12AWG speakerwire for my 7.1 setup.

I am using approximately 50 feet for my 5.1 system. All of it is on the floor. I have not run any through the floor or walls yet. All of it,except for the surrounds,is 10 gauge Blue Jean Cable. For the surrounds I bought cables from Amazon.com. Marketplace I don't know what gauge the surrounds cables are.

I used around 160' of 16/4 for the H/T system combining the ends of each run to efectivly make for 13ga wire.
