Volume on Onkyo 705

I am having an issue with volume levels that likely stems from me being a newbie in this territory. I own an Onkyo 705 receiver with KEF KHT-3005 speaker setup. I am unable to get the volume to drop below a certain level (one which is still fairly loud), basically eliminating the ability for quiet/low volume listening.

I can turn the receiver volume all the way down to - infinity and the volume does not go down. Is there a way to set the actual "resting" or "minimum" volume? I referenced the manual and fooled with some speaker level settings but noticed no overt change.

That's a little strange. Did you run the auto calibration?

Yup, that's strange indeed. Try going into setup. On my 805 there's a miscellaneous category and under that you'll see "volume setup". Perhaps you'll find something there that helps.

The 705 does have an adjustable mute level that can be set as high as -10db I believe.
While it doesn't seem likely that this would affect the minimum volume as controlled by the remote or volume knob, it may be worth the time to check where it is set. Possibly changing it to the infinite, fully muted, setting.
As stated above, you'll need to go into the volume set-up. Page 92 of the manual.
