Im pretty new to home theatre and plug along picking up pieces when I can.

I currently have
Klipsch kw100 sub
Klipsch RC 52IV centre
Energy cf50 tower speakers
Marantz sr6009 receiver
Theatre in a box surround sounds hooked up wirelessly

I find the system very clear but I seem to have to keep my volume quite high, unless I have it in stereo when the energy speakers are by themselves. Also my sub lacks punch! I am about 10 feet away from the speakers.

Is this normal or did I mix something up?

Surrounds are effects channels so they're normally are not loud. Did you run audessey? Are your speakers set to small?

Thanks for the response!

Yes I set all too small and ran the audessy. I just find Netflix doesn't offer much bass punch and I find it strange I have to have my volume at greater then 3/4s to have it listenable. Maybe that's just the way it is tho!

Well your sub isn't really a room filler, unless your in a very small room, very. The surrounds may not have an issue. Your avr is more than capable for your setup, so the sub is the weakest link for home theater.

Cool! What size of sub do you recommend? I can add a second and was thinking of doing that?

You may be misjudging the volume readings, too; it's not a percentage, it's an algorithmic expression in dB; this is from Denon but same as Marantz in this respect http://denon.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/136/~/relative-and-absolute-volume-ranges. Which scale are you using and what is the readout on the master volume level?

Try boosting the sub level by 3-6dB, many do after running Audyssey. Also are you using Dynamic Volume and/or Dynamic EQ? I'd turn off DynVol and learn to use Dynamic EQ. https://audyssey.zendesk.com/entries/73283-Dynamic-EQ-and-Reference-Level

Total room size is roughly 300 square feet however it's open concept so I'm really only using half of it as a tv space, the other half is my dining room.

Budget.. 500ish

Well the open size needs to be pressurized. In the 500 range look at rythmik, they have introduced some great budget subs. Measure the cubic feet not the square footage.

Id say about 1056 cubic feet. When I'm looking do I look for a certain wattage? Woofer size?

I'll spend more if it's worth while
