Volume control issues

Hi all - I'm trying to wrap my head around this issue I'm having and can't seem to come up with any solutions. I bet you lot can figure it out no problem:

I have a 5.1 setup = one 5.1 receiver (yamaha rxv 650 = 95w/c), one 5.1 pre-amp (sunfire theater grand processor 1), and one 2 channel amp (ADCOM gfa585 le = 250w/c). I use the sunfire pre-amp to start, then the front l/r channels go to the adcom, and the rest go to the yahama. I'm just using the yamaha for its amplifiers - I set the mode to "pure direct" multi-channel input.

Here's the problem - the speakers attached to the yamaha, especially the rears, are far too weak decible-wise to compare to the fronts! The adcom is just too powerful? Even if i set the rear channel level to +10 on the sunfire AND the yamaha, and set the front channels to -10 on the sunfire, the front two speakers still outpower the other guys too much. I just can't hear the rears at all, and it's ruining the experience.

Anything I can do to boost the volume of the rears (or reduce the volume of the fronts?) Thanks!

I'm guessing the yamaha receiver does not have the same gain efficiecy through its 6 channel analog imputs as what a power amp would have, that would more than likely be the problem right there.

Hmm - gain efficiency...

So, would I be able to fix this in any way? Is there such a thing as an independent gain control unit or volume control unit that I can send the rear channels through? I feel like I just need a way to crank them up, and then I'm good to go!

have you tried switching the rears to lr on the yamaha? Processing still comes from the sunfire, and you didnt mention an issue with the center, I have my gain set to 3/4 on my power amp(running 4 ohm out to 5 ohm mlogans)

Seriously, I have no life.

Why are you setting it up this way, things are just too complicated.
What happens when you just use the Yam with the external amp or no external amp?

By the way, where is the master volume control on the Yam in all this? The Yam master volume is still in the picture this way. Maybe that needs to be turned up more. Your Adcom is just not too powerful for this to happen.
