Volume adjusting more when knob turned faster

I know this is a dumb question, but is it a built in feature (so you can turn it down rapidly when you forgot what volume you had it set to last, etc.) or just a side effect of some of the digital circuitry that with most digital volume knobs if you turn it a 1/4 or 1/2 turn slowly it may change a few dB but if you turn it very rapidly it may change 40-60dB.

If you spin the knob quickly or press and hold the volume button on the remote, it will go through its range more quickly. It's not really about how fast you spin it but rather how far it is turned in a given period of time.

Not always. Can also move through faster. It's a feature.

Thanks for the replies.

Yeah, it definitely is based on how quickly you turn it because if you keep your hand on the knob, turn it quickly in one direction, slowly in the other, repeat you can get significant changes in the volume.
