Voltron: Defender of the Universe Live Action Movie

Producer Mark Gordon ("The Day After Tomorrow", "Saving Private Ryan", "Speed") is developing a live action feature film based on the 1980s giant robot kids TV series and toy sensation. The "Voltron" animated TV series debuted in 1984, about the same time as Hasbro's Transformers toy line, setting off a morphing robot phenomenon. It's interesting to note that this movie seems destined to come out at about the same time as <A href="http://www.audioholics.com/news/pressreleases/transformersliveactionmovie.php">Spielberg's Transformers movie. This is not unexpected given Hollywood's proclivity for releasing movies in pairs. The story is currently being written and should be released sometime in 2007.

Sorry Spiffyfast, but I don't think Steven Spielberg will be directing. I believe it is just his studio that is producing. I've heard Michael Bay's name attached as director, but I don't know if that is official yet.

hmm, either way, Im sure it will still be great, im excited, it'll be neat to see how they adapt it to live action from a cartoon story base

All I know is that they better not try to have any of the robots shrink down or grow larger as they transform. That will really bug me. No pistols or boom boxes, please.

Transformers mini movie

If you haven't seen this little clip yet and you are a fan of transformers, it is well worth checking out for the coolness factor:

Scroll down about 1/3 of the way and click on the little MPG movie icon or pick the file size you want. Very cool!!

That's the least of my worries. Do you think that Hollywood wil present a strong story and base it accurately on the 80's series? Or do you think it will be another watered-down, politically correct, generic piece of bland garbage, like most others? Want to place a bet? :)

Well, if the teaser is any indication, I don't have high hopes for it. I'll wait until we see a full trailer before making a full opinion.

On another note, that Citroen commercials on the website linked by alandamp's thread were pretty good.

The Citreon commercial was really cool, i had a good chuckle.

I must have been half asleep in the '80s, I remember the Transformers but Voltron is drawing a blank.

I'll probably rent it for kicks anyways. I wonder what else they pull from the '80s? I guess with all this computer aided animation they can do pretty much anything (within reason).

Sorry, I was referring to Transformers teaser, not Voltron. I used to put Voltron on after I got home from school and was having a snack before homework. Not exactly a great show, but it's what was on and I had already had a long time interest in that Anime look & feel starting with Speed Racer.

I have a question...

I used to watch Force Five and was wondering which came first, Force Five or Voltron?

My man Gaiking!
