I bought a Sony 36" CRT TV from Costco 7 years ago and the TV die on me last week. I asked Costco if they can fix it and they told me to take it back to them. So I reluctantly took it back to them yesterday with the help of a friend (That TV is heavy as hell), the Costco employee asked me what was wrong with the TV and gave me a full refund of $1400 bucks.

I then bought the Vizio VO47LF (47" LCD 1080P). I know nothing about this brand, I wanted to buy a TV with the $1400 price range, and I compare this TV with Mitsubishi and Sharp side by side, and the picture quality seems to be comparable. But Mitsubishi is $600 more expensive.

I use the TV in my bedroom, and so far (1 night watching) I am happy with it. I want to hear your opinion about this TV or this Brand in general, did I make a mistake? Should I take it back for another brand?

Thank you in advance for all your feedback.

Hmmmm. Well, it may be too late now (unless you get one of the mods involved). I guess it's not too harmful. Perhaps the most important thing is to be wary of it next time. :) Cheers.

Any opinion?confused:
I read a report once that indicates that these second tier vendors (Vizio, Insignia, Polaroid) have more issues and especially poor repairablity after the warranty period. Basically, if it's after a year and it breaks, toss it.

I would only buy the major brands -- Panasonic, Samsung, Pioneer, etc. I'm sure they have their problems as well, but they are stronger and have better support. I recently bought a Panasonic plasma at Costco, and did not even consider Vizio.

The report I read (can't remember where now, but it was referenced from a couple forums; I might have even posted the link on this forum at one time) was from service guys, and was not just a slight on those manufacturers.

OTOH, I'm sure there are lots of guys that are happy with Vizio, etc. If you want to take it back, I'm sure Costco will take care of you; they've been great with us.

Good luck.

I've had bad experiences with Vizio's quality control. I've heard they've improved, but I'm still leary. But, theyre customer service is AAA++.
Here's my experience:
bought a 37" (720p vx37l?) picture was very "fuzzy", Vizio said was defective. Took it back to Costco and got another 37".
(2 days later) Picture was much sharper but had a terrible "halo". Vizio said defective. took it back and got a 42" (720p gv42l?).
(1 month later) Worked great for a month and the picture started getting messy. Vizio sent me a replacement from the factory.
(3 weeks later) they're guys showed up took the old tv out and installed the new one - same model #but with something along the lines of 'grade A plus" at the end of it. Very sharp picture, colors good for the price.
(1 year later) Picture still great (for price). it started dropping channels. I'd have to rescan for new channels every other day to watch tv.
(3 weeks ago) Took it back and bought a different brand.

YMMV

Hey, I also have a older 32" Magovox I purchased from Costco about 6-7 years ago dying on me as well. Did you need the original receipt to get that return for store credit or did they just scan the manufacturer serial # and verify that way? If I can return it to them for store credit I would like to as well and get a HDTV as well. Please let me know. Thanks!

I saw this at Costco and it was next to the Sony And Phillips model. I really could not tell the difference. Vizio looked just as good as the others.

If I were you, I would read as much of this as I could stomach.

Then I would take the Vizio back and get a Panasonic Plasma. :)
Would you recommend a Plasma TV even though you'll be connecting a PC to it? From what I've heard/read, Plasma do not seem to look as good as LCD HDTV when a PC is connected.

That is something I had not heard before. I recently became interested in the Panasonic 700U series as it gets recommended a lot around here. There's a handful of members here that I consider to be brainiacs when it comes tho this kind of stuff and one of them was going to use the Panasonic specifically as a monitor.

I'm not sure if it's cool to name drop so I won't. You can do a search and read all about it. I am interested in where you heard/read that though.

No, I did not need the original receipt. I gave them my name (who purchased the TV) and the TV brand name, and they looked me up in their data base.

Vizio is probably the best of the non-major brands, but Panasonic IMO is the best money you can spend for a good quality plasma TV.

As long as it's fed a good quality VGA signal, there should be no problems. I've never seen any that would sway my opinion otherwise. ;)
