Visio upping the ante!

Sp -1 :D

Actually a very cool article, thanks. :) I've long kept an eye on this company - they seem to be the "Rocky Balboa" underdog story in the world of consumer flat panels. I've had a few friends who can't afford to spend a lot on TV's, and I've pointed them in Vizio's direction on more than one occasion. Seems as if they have indeed ramped it up quite a bit with this new line, and I'm very excited to see some reviews and even do an in-person demo when I get the chance.

Ooooh... I'm especially intrigued by the 21:9 cinema-wide panel they are releasing.. (drool...) :D

Hmmm... definitely keeping these in mind for my next purchase, whenever that might be. The old Panny is bound to die at some point I'm sure (hopefully not for a while yet..) :D

If they were upping the ante, start buying panels from Panasonic and get plasma production rolling :eek::D

Yeah, per blogs attached....Vizio provides Sony with a lot of their components....Business Week article last week pointed out Sony now only makes 50% of their tvs and no LCD panels....they buy from Samsung....so being name conscious now foolish in most cases.

Not until I see some QC.. looks like they are being plagued by some bugs...;)
A couple of firmware issues, but Pannys CS, backs up their QC. With their new plant up and running, they isnt much of a production reason why Vizio cant start buy panels from them, since it would be Vizio's Video Borads going into the units.

You know what would be really cool is to get a "road map" of who buys parts from what manufacturer ...ie..Sony now buying Vizio panels....but where is Vizio getting these. Same goes for AVR and DVD/BR...be interesting to see what cousins are sleeping together? :p

Good Question

3db - great question. I bet it's like the appliance industry where everyone makes product for everyone else. Especially on the lower end units where you can't tool up a factory and pay it back with just your own stuff due to low margins. The electronics market has to be the same way especially with what it costs to put up a new flat-panel plant. Isn't it something like $1 billion US or more? Takes a hell of a lot of TVs to make that investment back!

I'm wondering about the "road map" because both Samsung and some older Panasonics were experiencing power supply hum and I'm wondering if these power supplies came from the same supplier?
