Video through receiver?

Is there any noticable video degradation when running video through a receiver (i.e. H/K AVR 230)? The reason that I ask is because my old Sony 36" tv has only one s-video in and I would like be able to use s-video on my dvd and digital cable receiver.

Usually not a difference but that is not an absolute
