Video signal can be seen but not properly recorded

Having been able to record the signal from my Samsung SCI-702E satellite receiver scart VCR connector for years, records are recently colourless and image and sound distorted. I get the same result if I use the receiver scart TV connector instead, whilst the same signal is properly seen on TV screen and any signal from other sources, such as the TV set or a DVD player is correctly recorded in the same VCR.

Does anyone know why a CV signal can be seen but not recordable?

The only thing that comes to mind is that the service provider company probably introduced some sort of copy protection.

Maybe your recording device is dirty? Try cleaning the heads.
Sounds like some sort of copy protection. Maybe you can call your service provider and ask them.

We already cleaned the heads, but that did not change the situation. Note that the VCR records any other signal perfectly. I should add that the same signal can be recorded when it is received using other reception means (cable TV at other address). (Hence) the TV signal is not protected against recording.

What kind of cable is going to the VCR from the Sat box? Have you tried swapping cables? Or, using that cable to the VCR, unplug at the VCR and connect to TV and see if the signal is good, or distorted as you described it. Cold solder joint in cable connection?

The scart cable we are using is the one we had always used and the same used to sucessfully test recording from other devices (TV set, DVD player,...), but the first thing we did was to check the cable connector wiring and the second was to use other, fully wired, cable, with no change in the results.
