Hi folks,
This is probably a dumb question to seasoned HT buffs, but here goes. I don't have HD TV yet, in fact the best video connection I can do is S-video (I know, I need to upgrade) DVD is connected straight to the TV via S-video. Question is - If I use the Component outs of the DVD player to the Component In on the receiver and run the S-video out of the receiver to the TV will the picture be improved? Again please forgive the ignorence.
Thanks.

Probably not. Have you heard the phrase, “A chain is only as strong as its weakest link?” I too am constrained to S-video on my 13 year old Mitsubishi, but it still provides an excellent picture.

Actually, S-video straight from your DVD to the TV is your best connection because it avoids extra up-conversion and down-conversion which can degrade the signal. You can do best running optical (toslink) or digital coaxial from your DVD directly to your receiver if you have the connections available. Run RCA connections from the DVD to the TV for TV sound.

Thank you both for the insight. Both of your replys make a lot of sense. I do have a coax input on the back of the receiver, so I will use that for Dobly digital sound. I just need to get a pair of analog cables to go from the DVD to the TV.
Thanks again
