This may have been addressed already on these forums and if it has I apologize but I have a purely hypothetical question for you folks.
Lets say your upconverting DVD player/HD-DVD player whatever has a DVI input but your display has only VGA. Will a VGA to DVI adapter reduce quality substantially or will it even work for that matter. I know as far as upscaling you must use DVI or HDMI for it to work so will the adapter interfere and give you low resolution. Just curious if any one knows.
Thanks.

I think I've figured this out already, but yeah sorry about that it wasn't very clear in my post. I was just curious if using a DVI to VGA adapter would allow you to still upconvert resolution or have high resolution. I think it would allow you to view it but because of the analog adapter you wouldn't be able to use the benefits of DVI and I was just wondering if anyone knew that to be true.

THX,
You should be able to find an inexpensive adapter to convert from the component output on your DVD player to VGA for your monitor.

Converting from DVI to VGA requires a Digital to Analog conversion and a box with electronics. This conversion defeats the purpose of using the DVI output.
