HT sound system

JarHead,
Nice video gear.
What is your budget for the 5.1 HT audio system including receiver, speakers, and sub?

The AH recommended systems might also be a good place to start.

The first and most important piece is finding the speakers you like. Once you find them you can decide if you want to slowly build an awesome system by getting some great mains and a good AVR and adding the sub, center and surrounds as more money becomes available or go ahead and by a decent system all at once.

You have a decent size room so you can not skimp on the sub. SVS has their +2 subs for a great price right now and I would jump on that deal.

So if it were me; I would get the SVS sub, find the mains I like for 1K and get a 400 buck AVR. This will take you over budget by 500 bucks but would be worth it in the end. You can add the other pieces down the road. For mains I would look at:

B&W
Paradigm
Monitor Audio
Swan
AV123
PSB
Axiom

If you want to get it all at once for your budget; I would look at the complete systems from AV123, SVS, Axiom and Aperion.

Just go to the manufacturer's websites of the companies that Greg mentioned and see if there is a dealer in your area that sells that particular speaker. You will be overwhelmed at first by how many choices there are out there but this is necessary as every speaker has different characteristics that you might like or not, so that should be your first starting point.

For example some people prefer a brighter sound (B&W 68x series, Klipsch RF series), and others a more laid back sound (Paradigm Studio series, B&W CM series). Or some of the guys in the forum will just tell you go get a complete system from av123, svs, or aperion and be done with it so it's up to you.

I have heard the SVS SBS-01 package in a room almost exactly that size and it did very well with the PB-10 sub (I used to own the PB-10 also) For $1K it is a solid starter system, add any decent $500 receiver and you are good to go. In that pice range, I'd probably skip floor standers and be looking for a good bookhelf/sat system.

My exact recommendation to him in a PM; it would make a great little movie/game system but I did say to go for the PB12.:D

I'd probably go for the PB-12 as well, but the PB-10 will still more than satisfy most people.

So what should it Be SVS, or one of the other's

I have been looking at the SVS 5.1 SBS and the SCS systems. I dont know the SBS system comes with a pb-12 in a package deal, however the SCS doesnt come with the sub, should i go with the SCS system and then buy the sub as well..... Or should i go with another brand ... i am torn

E-mail Tom or Ron at SVS, and tell them what sub you would like to go with for the SCS system if that is what you want.

Like I said in the PM; you have to decide what you really want here. You should audition speakers but if you cant or dont want too then the SVS system is going to make a nice movie/game system. SVS is great to work with and they wont try to over sale you. It looks like the SCS is out of stock until Jan 08 which isnt long but I dont know how long you want to wait.

Svs will usually discount any sub when you but a package but since the subs are so cheap right now; I dont know if they will.

I would also consider the AV123 Rocket RS 450, the RSC200 Signature Center Speaker, the SVS PB 12-plus and use some cheap surrounds for now.
