I have the oddest problem with my Denon 3805 which makes no sense.

Playing DVDs does not produce sound. Playing CDs on the same DVD player does produce sound. I have ruled out the player as the problem because I attached another DVD player to the receiver and had the same problem.

I was using a coaxial cable setup. I bought a new cable - same problem.

I changed to an optical cable through VDP instead of DVD and it worked fine for about 3 days.

I just went to put in a DVD and there is no sound through the VDP. I played a CD and it sounds fine. The CD will play in surround and direct(stereo).

I have tried different DVDs with no change.

HELP!!!!!

Sound like your settings may be the problem. Check the player's audio settings as well as the AVR's settings.

I believe you need to change the input from "PCM" to "AUTO" on the receiver. If it was set to "ANALOG", you wouldn't get any sound out of CD's either.

Thanks Cygnus, that did the trick.

I just taught my 5 year old that CDs should be listened to in Pure Direct mode not surround so he probably hit the button on accident.

Thank you!!!

Glad I could help! That has tripped me up a couple of times as I'll accidentally change the input with the remote and not realize it.
