I owned a Luxman integrated amp back in the 80’s. Only 35 watts, but they were superbly clean & musical watts. After I “upgraded” to an Adcom amp & pre-amp, I always missed the smooth sound of the Luxman, compared to the dry presentation of the Adcom (through a pair of Dahlquist DQ8 speakers) I would imagine you could find a used Lux on ebay for a good price;):)

That's one sweet-looking integrated! Nice to see Luxman coming back. I never owned any of their stuff, but a buddy of mine did way back when and I remember him being really passionate about it. He was a real audio freak before many of us got into the game somewhat!

Marantz is another company that has been around for decades upon decades and their Reference line gear is top-notch. In fact, I just ordered their TT-15S1 turntable. My next upgrade is a 2-channel Power amp and I'm going to give them some serious consideration.

anybody know of other integrated amps with analog meters that are NOT expensive? (as in less than 1k, maybe even 500 :) )

Hi Mike,
Didn't the Emotiva RPA-2 have them?

Very nice unit. I always liked Made in Japan better than in any other part of the far east, as the price reflects. For that money I would have to buy Made in USA.
Luxman
Japanese mid to high end manufacturer that those days sees little distribution in the west. Company has it's roots in a transformer workshop founded by Miura-san in the 1930's but Luxman gained notoriety in the 70's and 80's as it was the only major hi-fi manufacturer that never stopped producing valve based amplifiers. When it was taken over by Alps in the early/mid 80's it inherited the Alpine home hi-fi division and the Alpage brand and this has created a lot of confusion since the product lines of the Alpine factory started appearing with the Luxman brand on it, and in some cases there where more than one distributor in each country distributing Luxman branded products, one for the product lines and designs from the old Alpine factory and one for the products from Luxman proper. The Alpine home hi-fi products where not bad at all, their cassette recorders for instance where excellent but the consumer oriented product lines clashed terribly in the marketplace with the almost elitist and perfectionist Luxman brand and confusion reigned. The last Alpine home hi-fi factories in Hong Kong appear to have closed in or around 2000 and the Luxman company is now exclusively an upmarket operation .

I also live in a 220V region (Eur). These amps are at least 34 years old though; 1975 when I first saw them.

Here is a nice integrated amp. from Cayin. You can get 4 of these for the price of the Luxman, and you get wireless remote controls included. ;)

now, that's beautiful! (purple is a little weird, but i don't think blue would be any better)

It looks like the enclosures of the Luxmans and the Cayins are made from the same company, I wonder who is the manufacturer. The Cayins have that same ducting on top with the mesh blocks that the Luxmans have. Maybe the Cayins are knockoffs of the Luxmans or they just buy the same enclosures? Hard to say, I doubt either makes their own enclosure so it probably is just that they buy from the same enclosure manufacturer.
