Hey all,
So I want to hook my computer up to my receiver, using my sound card's spdif output. The problem is, I'm going to need about 50' of cable to accomplish this task. Can I push a full DTS signal over 50' of cable (without spending a fortune on cabling)? Any thoughts or suggestions would be greatly appreciated...

Thanks,
Pete

Does your computer have an optical or "normal" SPDIF output? If it's "normal" (like coax digital audio), you can just use some inexpensive RG6 coax from Home Depot and some RCA connectors from Parts Express.

It should be fine with a decent RCA cable like RG-6 quad shield.

I run my digital coax about 30 feet from my DVD player (family room) to my surround receiver (basement) over mini-RG59 cable and it works perfect.

BMXTRIX, really? Why dont you have the receiver where your DVD player is? And why is it on a seperate floor?

I have most of my equipment in my basement - that is the head end for my entire home.

In the basement: A/V receiver, Crestron control system, Sony DVP-995V (400 disc dvd), iMerge dual zone digital music server, 16 zones of preamplification, 14 stereo zones of amplification (distributed audio), XM Radio, cable box, and a good Monster Power Center.

That takes up about 6 feet of space with ventilation and wouldn't work well in the family room. ;)

The family room has a local DVD player, VCR, Power Center, and PS2 - that's it - built into an end table w/glass front so my son can't mess with the gear.

It works out well, though I really need more room in the rack in the basement to add my HD OTA tuner, and I'm in real trouble if I upgrade to a 5805 or separates. ;)

I have a 50' Impact Acoustics Coax cable. Also have a 50' run of component cable and HDMI. In any case, all brand new. If you are interested, pm me and I''ll give it to you for a great price.
