Happy New Year!
Listening area is about 4000cu.ft.(open space). Using B&W 705's for Mains,Center and Surrounds. Pushing them with Onkyo SX-TR 700. Probably will need 2 subs. Which of the following will kick butt on music and home theater.

Velodyne-SPL-1500R
SVS PB12-Ultra/PB12Plus2
HSU-VTX-3 HO
M&K?

I'm going to go out on a limb here and say the PB-12plus/2 would have the highest output.

The Velo is big, but it's not going to be that loud.

The Hsu would do pretty well, but the /2 would probably have more output. These are 2 subs I'd like to see commented on, as to which is better give their price and size.

The M&K units (push pulls) are supposed to be pretty good, esp. the THX ones with a selector switch that will give the sub a flat anechoic response to 20Hz. With that engaged in a room it could do very well.

Sheep, don't forget that for a bit more than the cost of a VTF-3 HO, one can get dual VTF-3 Mk3, which would offer some very serious output capability!

As an alternative, adding an MBM-12 to a VTF-3 HO will provide about 10db (!) higher headroom in the mid/upper bass.

Also, the VTF-3 Mk3/HO with turbocharger will move as much air as DUAL -3 Mk3/HO in extended bass mode w/ port plug for a given level of port noise.

I've got just under 4000 sq ft, and my Plus/2 rattles the windows in other rooms. I can't imagine needing more than a Plus/2. You may be fine with one VTF-3 Mk3/HO with turbocharger, and it's less expensive than the Plus/2. I'm just not sure about the looks. The Plus/2 in oak makes a great end table.

I was hoping you would comment. Seems the plus has more then enough. Might as well save some dought and grab the VTF-3HO.
