Hello

I was wondering what type of sub you guys would recommend. I was looking at the Velodyne CHT-10 for 450$ canadian. It looks pretty good. I'm not going to go any higher. :( I was also looking at the Sony SA-WX700 for 400$ canadian. I know Sony stuff isn't generally that good but the dual 10 inch push-pull design is interesting. :D What other subs would you recommend in this price range. I will be listening to 100% music so it must be musical and most of it will be electronic music or heavy rock so it must go low and have alot of bass. Neighbors aren't are problem and I live fairly remote from any big store so it must be fairly consumer like Velodyne and Athena. Unfortuantly it can't be subs like SVS and HSU. Thanks.

Personally I think that Velodyne make some of the beat subwoofers on the market. However, look on eBay, I'll bet you can find the CHT-10 for a lot less.

Thanks

Thanks for the link Polygon but unfortuantly I don't have a credit card. But oh well, do you the the CHT-10 would stand up with the Rava. I see alot of poeple saying that the CHT-10 can be boomy and I dont want that due to me listening to all music. Is this true or is it generally pretty good, it does have an over-excursion limiter which is good. Oh about the sony subwoofer what do you guys think about that. It got an interesting design. But it cannot be very boomy. :) Thanks and keep the info coming.

The Velodyne is a 10" ported design and the Rava is a 12" sealed. Output on both should be quite similar. The Rava may benefit more for music use as it is a sealed design and would be slightly quicker in trasient response. The Velodyne is no slouch for music however, if someone was saying it was boomy I would like to see the subwoofer placement and crossover settings before making any rash conclusions. In my opinion if it will be used more for music I would take the Rava as it will play deeper and may be slightly quicker in transient response.

Thanks guys

Hey people. ;)

I want to buy the Rava but I have no way of purchasing it. So I think I will but the Velo because it has gone on sale at my local future shop and it seems like a good subwoofer. About the sony I was wondering what you think of it. I still haven't got any info on it. It's the direct competiter of the velodyne. The Klipsch RW-10 looks like a good sub what do you think of it. Also what do you think of the JBL northridge line of subs are like. They have digital amps. It's hard for me to audition these subs so i'm going by your word.

P.s What do you think of the velodyne VX-10. I purchased one so I was just interested in what you guys think about it. It sounds pretty good. :D

Haas out.

I'm sorry but I could never recommend a Sony over a Velodyne. I have yet to audition a piece of audio equipment from Sony or speakers that were better than middle of the line equipment. I would take the Velodyne over the Sony any day of the week. However, I've yet to audition or read up on the VX-10.

I usually try to maintain an objective stance when comparing products, but in this case I will second what Polygon has said. I too, have not studied the VX-10

Interesting

Hello

Well isn't this interesting. I think the VX-10 is a great little subwoofer. But some people haven't even looked into it. Anyways I think Audioholics should do a head to head reveiw of the JBL PB10, Klipsch RW-10 and the Velodyne CHT-10. By the way which one do you think is the best in that group of subs. Thanks

VX 10 reviews from the FS website

This sub is a beast! It pounds like theres no tomorrow. I have a Kenwood VR6060 as my receiver and this receiver put out! This sub is unexplainable! It performs so good during music play, video games and movies! I'm scared to turn this thing full blast while watching Pearl Harbor! Its NUTS! But I have played my bass explosion cd and put it full blast and there is no distortion what so ever. The only downlow about playin bass cds with this woofer is that it can't hit the 15" woofer notes. Otherwise this sub it the sub to buy in this price range! This sub it the BEST of all 10"!

Im not a fan of klipsch but a face off would be a good idea. I looked at the vx-10for the bed room system there is only 4 hz diff between cht10 and the vx10 now there is a diff in watts and rms but is there enough to pay a 200$ bigger price tag...hmmm the best thing would be to bring in your fav dvd or cd and get them to switch from one sub to the other

Klipsch hmmmm

Hi all,

When I think of Klipsch I think of a small amount of clean, good, tight well controlled bass that dosen't have alot of air movement but it sounds good. When I think of JBL I think of bass that is sloppy but moves alot of air and goes low. When I think of velodyne I think of bass that is tight and low but slightly boominess with high amount of air movment. My 2 cents. About the velodyne VX-10 and the CHT-10 I truly wonder if that amount of watts and the extra sensitivity is worth all the extra money. I don't know haven't heard them together yet.

Sony? Really?

I have had the chance to audition the whole line of velodyne subs. from the older cht series to the new "digital" subs they just realased and the sony you mentioned. Lets get the bad out of the way first. Both when I have listened to the sony and when I hear customers telling me about the sony, it seems to have a slight hum. Tried all sorts of hookups, cables, etc. Just doesn't quit. Also it tends to be quite boomy and unclean. The velodyne, however, works great. Never had any problems with it. The Cht-15 was actually our reference sub for quite a while. However, act quickly, the Cht-12 is going to be closed out soon and it may already be hard to find.

The Velodyne SPL-1000(10") is sealed, isn't it? I looked at it today at the Goodguys for $1300 USD.

Yes, the SPL series subs from Velodyne utilize sealed enclosures.
