I'm interested in buying the velodyne woofer on Ebay and I wanted to know if its worth buying for $90. It exceeds my power expectations, but the only thing that I'm concern about is that an early 2003 model. Its a class d amp so I shouldn't sound distorted right? this would be my first high end sub so fill me in on this. I asked the seller questions about the woofer's usage already but the seller is not an audiophile so he wouldn't be able to give me detailed info. Please let me know if its a good deal I'm what you call a newb to this stuff so any info would be great. I'm going to note the only specs that were available from the pictures below.
(btw the sub has in input for lfe so that means I can hook it up to my reciever with a subwoofer cable right? because my onkyo reciver doesnt have right & left connections for a subwoofer. If its not the LFE input what spec should I be looking for, so I can connect it with a cable)

1000watts RMS ( that excites me!)

ultra efficient class D amp( READ good review about class d amps in general)

Dynamic driver control

High temp voice coil
Long throw driver

I don't think there is such a Model (1086II) It's SPL800, SPL1000, SPL1200, and SPL1500.

well that's what the seller put, Look at the EBay page just copy and past : Velodyne SPL Series II Subwoofer Black Model SPL1086II : and it should come up I hope the woofer is the spl1000 because its video shielded compared to the 800 which is not.

i think it says BG instead of 86 (which means black gloss most probably)

It is the SPL1000 II. and Mike is correct the BG designates black gloss. Audioholics did a nice review of the SPL1200 II and I bought one back in 2002 (my first sub). Great little woofers and if it works, and you can get it for $60 it's a no-brainer.

RED FLAG WARNING, unless its damaged why on earth would it be sold at that price. Velodyne had issues with there amps failing at one piont in the early 2000's, and they cost around 450 to replace the 1250w amp.

And remember, dont get too excited over RMS rating, you have to take into account many other factors such as cabinet design and efficiency of the driver. Its a smaller sub, so it needs more power to give you a decent output.

Just an example, take a look at the Epik Knight or MFW-15, ONLY 350w RMS, but either would kick the pants off Velodyne.
