Hello,

i am thinking about picking one of these up from a local person selling one. He said that it will need a new amp? He said that the amp powers up and is green but there is no sound. Do these subs require a speacial amp? I was thinking about getting an O-Audio plate amp. Also the driver was refoamed a few years back. Should i pass on this or are these still decent?

Thank you

You can not use a generic plate amp on that servo. There is a transducer (accelerometer) on the woofer that sends a signal to the amp. Through a feed back servo mechanism it controls cone excursion and extends bass, as it is a form of Eq that varies constantly to conditions.

You will need an amp of original manufacture, or have the one in it fixed. And yes they are "decent".

If you can pick it up as a gift, $20 or less, OK. Otherwise move on.

Thanks for the info. I had a feeling that it may need a special amp. I will move on. He was asking $100 for it. Thanks again
