I have been in the market to upgrade my old Infinity BU-2 subwoofer. The other day I found a used Velodyne HGS15 subwoofer at a local Home Theater Store for about $900 (includes a 30 day warrantee). It had a new amplifier installed in 2007 and has a Black Lacquer finish. The dealer was more than happy to demo the unit for me. It sounds sweet….. I did some online research and learned the HGS15 was quite a subwoofer in its day. My other options in this price range are the smaller Velodyne SPL subs or larger Paradigm subs. I plan to use the sub in my dedicated Home Theater Room.

Yamaha HTR6090
4 Definitive BP10s
1 Definitive C/L/R 2500
Oppo DV-981HD
Sony 60” Grand WEGA

Is this a good buy? Is the HGS15 technology too old?

Having just purchased the Velo SPL-1200R & hearing what that puppy does for my HT along with two channel listening...I wouldn't hesitate at getting the HGS-15. I believe thay are very similar in performance & it sounds like you're getting a great deal on it. It replaced my SVS 25-31plus cylinder sub.

the dd line replaced the hgs line, so proformance would be along those lines.

Thanks to all for your responses. I purchased the HGS-15 last night. Hooked it up and played some music (Jazz) and then battle scenes from Master and Commander. Wow!!!!! What a difference from the Infinity BU-2 sub I had. The HGS-15 brings new life to my system and really complements my bipolar Definitve speakers. I was a little disapointed in my Definitive set up until last night. This an awesome sub, way more than I expected. It is like I have a whole new system. I love this sub.....

The Infinity BU2 is now in the upstairs family room attached to the everyday home theater and music system. And like the HGS-15, it brings new life to that system. This was a win-win purchase.

The HGS line uses servo feedback, it is very accurate.

You got a very good deal on an outstanding sub. Enjoy.
