Has anyone heard this sub yet?? Went to a local highe end Velo retailer and they did not carry or even hear of it yet. The jerk at the store had me believing that it did not exist until I found it on Onecall.

Very interested because Velo claims it will be any sub in its class as to the fact that distortion is Digitaly limited.

I guess. I realize that subwoofers are a very subjective thing but I found it to be boomy. I listened to it at Circuit City. I had previously purchased a CHT-12 from the same store, set up in the same room on the same equipment. The CHT-12 sounded crisp and tight, the DSP 10 sounded loose and boomy.

Just an impression, and certainly not a scientific or carefully researched one. I just gave it a listen for about 10 minutes in the room.

Wow that is just the oposit of what I expected to hear. Are you sure it was the DSP-10 I am skeptical as these have not even shipped to dealers yet. I read the sound and vision review and it said it was a great performer with unusualy tight bass.

When I herd the CHT-8 at Circuit city I thought it sounded like S**t. Boomy, muddy and distorted where a few words. plus the salesguy did not know his *** from his elbow.

Yep

It was at the Circuit City here in Greenville. I was hoping to find a CHT-15 in the store and was suprised to see the DPS-10.

I don't know if this link will work correctly or not, but it shows the DPS-10 in the Greenville and Anderson stores...

I didn't expect it to suck either. Again, I'm not saying that is a definitive review. I didn't get to play with it long. I did switch between the front "presets" and found the far left (I think "music") to be the least "boomy." I didn't mess with the back at all.

I also didn't love the looks of the unit. Go figure.

Well, you can hardly make a decision on sound quality of a sub at a store demo, especially Circuit City! These guys are genearlly lucky if tehy can hook everything up right! Sub placement is the most critical aspect of its sound. Do it wrong and any sub sounds boomy or lean despite how good it may actually be. Velodyne makes great subs at a variety of price points so I would not make a decision based on someones elses bad setup.

Agreed

I agree. That is why I covered my butt by making it clear that the scenario I was involved in was less-than-ideal.

Just reporting my experience...

...Not to mention any "tightness" you think you are getting from a subwoofer is coming from the midrange drivers of your speakers, not the sub itself. So, you can't really judge a subwoofer on it's ability to be "tight."

Listen to any subwoofer without the main speakers connected and see if you can see any "tightness."

No disrespect,

Where does a college kid get the money for that kind of gear??

Hard work during summers and not having to pay rent or anything because I live with a parent. Plus I can get a lot of gear at a very good discount, which helps. The subwoofer was given as a christmas gift.

Either that or I sell a lot of drugs.

Just changed it so that question doesn't come up all the time. ;)
