Ok, I'm a newbie and have only been looking for a few days.

FS (futureshop.ca]) has a deal on now for the DLS-5000R for $459 (Regular price $1015).

From what I can tell it looks like the HSU VTF-3 is the most direct comparison (soundandvisionmag.com/speakers/2316/shootout-five-mid-price-subwoofers.html). I found this priced at $839 in Canada (electronicsforless.ca/electronics/item/99/HSU_Research_VTF-3_MK_2_12-Inch_350W_Subwoofer_SALE)

Simply put, is the HSU worth almost $400 more? (More HSU Canadian pricing at hi-fidelity.com/hsu.htm)

I also found the SVS PB12-Plus (sonicboomaudio.com/Product.aspx?CatID=74]) listed at $1199)

My room size is about 2500 cubic feet. I'll be using the system for movies, music and gaming.

That's a tough call. It really depends on your expectations. The Velo won't go as low as the HSU/SVS, but it will provide enough for most people.

That's a great price for that sub, I used to have the DLS-3750R and it retails for $500, so it's hard to beat that sub for the money. If you don't mind spending a bit extra on an HSU/SVS, I don't think you would be dissapointed, but I think you will be happy with either one, that 15" Velo will give you plenty of output, and you get a remote too!

What????

I dont ever remember FS selling the 5000R just because of the price they tend to stay away from the hight end stuff because there is no market for them....I know because I use to work for them. I have the 5000R and paid 850 for it but it rocks and you wont be sorry and if they are offering it to you for $459 then go for it u wont lose out!!!!!

I just checked the site and yeah they are selling it and u know what GET IT BEFORE ITS GONE!!!!!!!!

The DLS-5000R was (and still is) sold out at Future Shop but you are still able to order at the reduced price and it says that it will ship "when available"

I figure I'll let fate decide. If it dosn't take too long I'll just wait for my Velodyne to Ship. If for some reason I get tired of waiting then I'll have to go out and buy the SVS, but for $400 that would be tough to swallow.

I guess I could always get a second sub later if I move to a bigger place.

Thanks

I ordered 2 of them but after doing some research, cancelled the order today. The Velodyne will have plenty of SPL, but just can't go as low as others. The Velo has a lot of distortion in the 20-30 Hz range as well. The deal is awesome, but I decided I shouldn't get them just because they're cheap. I'm planning on 1 or 2 SVS subs instead.

Damn

Ok, based on some more research I've cancelled my order at future shop for the Velodyne's DSL-5000R and just picked up a PSB12-NSD.

I'm in Canada so you can only get them through www.electronicsforless.ca They have a place in Markham but I'd call first. They were super friendly and I had a good listen of the sub before buying. The "office" is somewhat below par but this is where I'll go back to buy my equipment from now on.

Just a note, if you plan on getting this sub, take a van. Had to pull the sub out of the box to get it to fit in the car. They were extreemly helpful with this.

So in the end this cost me $250 CAD more but it seems that all the forums agree that this is the sub to buy.

If you are living in the condo beside, below, above, or accross the street from me, I appologize in advance...

You will not be sorry you got the SVS, I can assure you it will give you plenty of clean low bass. And if you ever have any questions about the product itself, or how to properly set it up, or calibrate it, just email the guys at svs, they are extremely friendly and very knowledgeable... after all they did design it.

Having heard both the pb12 nsd@ sonicboom and the velo dls 5000r. The pb12 is a slightly better sub for HT with better extension to 20Hz, but the velos 15" driver must account for some ability to move air and it's high SPL's are IMO very respectable for a $460.00 sub. Needless to say at the velos regular price Id say you made the right decision but ... JK:p.
Enjoy your new sub, Billy P:)

How does this one compare to the PB10 NSD? I was considering getting the PB10, but with the 5000R at $450 bucks, it's decision time.
