Velodyne DLP3500 vs. Mirage Omni S10

Hi
I haven't had a sub in my system and am looking to add it. I'm on a budget ~$200. I'm at 50% music 50% HT. The room is 17 x 14. I'm currently running Wharfedale Diamond II bookshelfs and a crappy center channel.

I was reading the thread on the Velodyne and it seems like what I'm looking for. I asked about that sub and the Athena AS-P400 the dayton 12 inch. Someone was suggesting the Mirage Omni S10.

I thought I'd post the question over here to get some more thoughts on it. So what do you guys think?

thanks

Chris

I have The Athena AS-P400 (new version is AS-P4000) and I have heard the Velodyne DLSR3500R and The Energy S10.3 (Same sub as Mirage S10).

Out of the three, I give it hands down to the Energy. Plays deeper, Its tighter, and Looks fantastic. The DLSR plays fairly loud, but it misses the Deeper content, and it gets boomy during High SPL playback.

The Athena is a good sub. Has better extention then the Velo, but it looses control down low, causing excessive port noise. I wrote a Review of it if you would like to read my findings in detail.

The Energy is one of my Fav. non online subs. The whole unit is well built, and can do music as well as movies justice.

I replied on AVS in favor of the Velo over the Dayton, but the S10 for $50 more is worth it IMO. It's a toss up between the 3750 and the S10. Maybe the Mirage is better and I'm a Velo fan.

That is a very good detailed review. thanks.

I think I'll check out the S10 out. From online comments it looks good. The mirage webisite says there is an audio store near me that carries Mirage.

However, the Athena site sent me to a dealer that was a car audio place, so we'll see.

I may just order it and see from there.
thanks

how about the Velodyne VX-10?
I have both the VX-10 and DLS-3500R, one each placed next to my floorstanding IL-30.

Initially, I thought the DLS is boomy, like sheepstar stated, compared to my VX-10. However, after meddling with the settings and putting it on R&B mode, and volume less than 50%, it sounds great.
btw, my test CD for music is the Eagles DVD - "Hell Freezes over" and it has lived up to it.

Good to hear that your sub is working out for you. I would love to have 2 of the 10inch or 12inch versions

You should post some pics of your system in the Member systems forum. :)

good idea. I will do that possibly tonight.

on another note, the reason i went for 2 subs was to have the Low Freq. spread all over the room, without getting loud or boomy (which might have happened If I went for a single large sub) , because as I walk around the room(or pick diff. seating position) I used to find that the bass is more towards one side of the room. I no longer have that problem.

Tis a mighty fine choice indeed. If I could do It all again, I'd Probly grab a nice sub/sat system and get 2 subs. Possibly a Velodyne Deco or Hsu Ventrilloquist(sp?) system.

I have yet to hear the Deco subwoofer...the one on display won't play for some reason, But the sats sounded very nice.
