Hello,
I was wondering if anyone here has ever owned/auditioned these circa late-90s puppies? What modern speakers might you compare them to, say in the Paradigm or B&W series. Good match for a Marantz SR7000. Thanks.

I assume you mean Watt Puppies?

B&W, Thiel, and many other high end audio equipment.

Paradigm I would not recommend to anyone. They just dont sound full. But I am a human.

Watt Puppies are/were an AMAZING speaker. New equipment from Thiel is great, the old stuff is a bit under refine, but sells at amazingly low used prices.

B&W is my prefered choice, but I am only interested in the 600 series, and these wont match the Watt Puppies.

Hmm...

I was referring to the Velodyne DF-661, as mentioned in the subject.

Though the Wilson Audio Pups would be exceedingly awesome.

I saw a pair down at Velodyne once. I asked about them. They didn't take off due to some initial poor reviews. They upgraded the tweeter and crossover, but never got back on track. They are supposed to be awesome with an original SRP of over $3Gs. Other than that I can't help you since I didn't get a chance to hear them.

Im back...

Hello my fellow audiophiles. I havent been here in a few months. But I have excellent news. I acquired a pair of Velodyne DF-661 speakers from an old lady for only $100! I guess her husband passed and she knew nothing about the speakers other than hey sounded "wonderful". Indeed they do. I will write a full review on them soon. But keep in mind, my ears were virgins to $2400 speakers.

I also bought a Paradigm PDR-10 subwoofer for $100, and it rips my old Bose a new one. I ended up giving the people that bought my Klipsch RB-5 (that I sold for $100:) the peice of crap "bass module".

Im back.

Newbie user here...

I also have a pair of the Velodyne DF-661s. They are fantastic! I have them matched with the HGS-10 subwoofer and am now getting rid of my LD-2 rear speakers. I had them in my rear setup but the wife pushed for in ceiling speakers. oh hum.

I had the crossovers adjusted on these to give just a hair brighter sound. It almost takes a little getting used to being so bright and clear.

Glad to see some other folks enjoying theirs as well!
Keep listening.

Thanks! Great to be here. It sounds like not too many folks have these. At $2600 or whatever they sold at retail that might have been steep.

Here is my other gear:

Denon AVR 3300
Velodyne DF-661 front
Velodyne HGS-10 sub
DirectTV HR21 HD DVR System
DirectTivo R10 system
Sony 55" analog rear projection TV (the last of the real rear projection beasts)
