Do I connect one pair of audio cables and a single video cable (RCA) to Line out on VCR to Line in on A/V receiver for proper results or some other combination of connections. Will I notice significant picture/sound quality improvement on all VHS tapes compared to not using these cables.Do I playback on 6 channel stereo? Thanks!

Yes, that is the proper connection. If you want to be able to record to the VCR, you would also need to connect the same 3 cables from the receiver's output jacks to the line-in on the VCR. Going through the receiver gives you the ability to record from other sources that go through the receiver and to control the volume from the receiver. It won't increase the quality of the video though. You would also need 1 additional video connection from the receiver's monitor out jack to the tv if you want to actually be able to see the video.

You can listen in 6 channel stereo or any other listening mode the receiver provides that works on 2 channel analog signals; ie Dolby Prologic II, Neo:6, or any DSP modes like Hall, Stadium, Live, etc (each receiver has different DSP modes with a variety of names).

For Video, I have the VCR composite (yellow) cable out to the receiver's VCR input Video. I then have a S-Video cable from the S-Video output of the receiver to the TV's input used for the VCR. As a result, the VCR image is improved.
