I want to record my vcr tapes with my dvd recorder but the tapes have a protective program ?
How do I copy to dvd, do i need different cables ?

No you do not need other cables, Composite Video and Left Right Analog is the best you can do,Unless you have a S-VHS, then you can use S-Video Cable.

I believe you are talking about Macrovision Encoding,on your commercial tapes.

Yeah Marcovision thats the protection I'm trying to get around so I can copy my kids vcr tapes to dvd

I understand but I do not think we are ever allowed to talk about defeating copy protection on these forums, its a very sticky subject.

If you have no other options left try to sell them, and then find out from your kids what their favorites are and see how much the DVD costs.The picture and sound quality will also be heads above a VHS Copy.

You would be surprised at how cheap some DVD's are.
