VCR recording audio problem

I just setup my system with a new HDTV monitor and a motorola HDTV tuner from Comcast. Everything is working great except the fact that I can record a program that runs through the tuner but it will not record the audio. I have moved wires in and out all kinds of ways and nothing seems to be fixing this problem. Wehn I have my rec'r switched to the VCR I can see the video on the TV but the sound will not work. Here is my hookup:

Cable in to splitter. Coaxial out to HDTV and to Tuner. Coaxial from tuner to VCR. Composite A/V from VCR out to A/V Rec'r and composite video out to HDTV. Tuner component out to HDTV. Optical to A/V Rec'r. DVD component to HDTV with optical to A/V Rec'r.

I feel I have tried all kinds of combinations to fix the VCR audio problem with no results. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I had basically this setup with my digital cable setup except the addition of the digital audio and it worked fine for everything. I'm not sure if the digital audio connections are messing things up or not.

I see a whole bunch of video connections and digital audio connections but...

...I don't see any analog audio (red/white) connections to or from the VCR. VCR audio is analog only and without these connections it won't work.

I don't know the specifics of that "tuner" you reference but generally if the VCR used the RF ("F" connector) as the input then normally the audio is piggybacked on that one cable.

For every composite video (yellow) connection into or out of the VCR, you'll need a red/white analog audio cable to carry the corrosponding audio.

So, pick up one or two of these and hook one up to the VCR as needed and see if that makes a difference.

I left that out...since I was not rec'g sound through the VCR I tried the anaolog connections. I have tried it from the cable box to the VCR. The TV to the VCR. From cable box (tuner) to rec'r and tv to rec'r and none of these work. I'm pretty sure I tried some other things as well with no luck. It seems like it should have worked on at least one of these setups.

I have coaxial cable into the VCR and A/V cables going to the rec'r. I have no connections besides an anaolog video cable going from the rec'r to the TV but I'm not trying to get the sound to come through the TV. I want it through the rec'r. I feel like I'm missing something obvious here.

I have attached my current setup, I think. Going from memory.

I'll try again, thanks for your help.
