Use "composite" (RCA plug) L/R and video from the satellite to the VCR and from the VCR to the TV or audio to a sound system. You won't be able to watch another channel on the satellite while the VCR is recording. When setting the timer on the VCR, designate "Input" instead of a channel # to get it to record from the RCA jack input. Use a splitter for OTA channels, one to the TV, so that you can, at least watch off attenna while the VCR is recording or use an A/B switch.

gpzbob,

Welcome to the Audioholics forums. Please don't double post the same question. A little patience goes a long way.

Wow

I'm glad to see I'm not the only dinosaur that still uses VHS.

I HAVE to still use VHS, mostly for my daughter's Baby Einstein collection and that stupid Purple Dinosaur!

I bought a cheap Magnasonic VHS from a hock shop (that's how much i don't want VHS) for $20 like 4 yrs ago and it is still kicking! The one before that was a Samsung which I paid $250 and didn't even last 2 yrs!

Go figure!

I am wtg for it to die so I can get an excuse to buy one of the those VHS/DVD-Ram units so I can transfer my collection (home movies, etc).

Just got back from a friend's house. Has been trying for months to get me over to fix up his system. A VCR/DVD combo with satellite, TV and A/V receiver among other things. He tried everything but couldn't get things to work.
Turns out, the combo machine, a JVC, only has inputs on the front. The back has outputs, a combo RCA connection for both sides, a digital audio and S-Video for the DVD and an RCA/S-Video for the DVD side. He wanted to be able to record from the satellite which I could only accomplish by connecting at the front. Why they didn't put an input in the back???
Anyway, he is happy with the result, he's got all systems go. The beer was good too!!!
