Are you asking if using a long cable will damage your electronics? If you are, I can tell you that the answer is no. As long as the cable is the correct one for the application then all you would need to worry about with long runs is picture degradation. Since you didn't specify what type of cable you were using, I can't really comment on that either.

If I was totally off base on what you were asking, please clarify.

I think you were right on Alan (OMG MICHIGAN WOOOOOOOOO).
I take it that you're from the UK s8n (feeling evil are we?). Anyway, no, using an 8m run with the proper cables will not harm anything. The only thing you run the risk of is signal loss, but with good stuff, it shouldn't be an issue. There are a few places online that will custom make cables for your application and length out of top-quality cable, but I don't know what your budget is, nor do I know what the international shipping rates would be like.

Are these speaker cables to the speakers themselves? If so, no special brand is neede but get one that is the equivalent of US 14 Gauge, about 1.628mm diamater of bigger.

How do you know you have a volume loss? What size are the speaker cables now?

Cross-sectional area: 0.22mm²
Insulation: PVC
Sheath: Grey⁄Brown polarity indicator
Applications include: intercoms, sensor line in alarm systems, short run hi fi⁄audio connections, etc.
