Variable audio from Yamaha receiver

I have a Yamaha HTR-5860. While I am watching a program (from cable or a DVD) the sound level randomly decreases for about a second or two and then returns the level it was supposed to be at. This happens sporadically, about once every few minutes when it is happening (which is not all of the time). What could be causing this? Thanks!

It sounds like you have some kind of compression going on from your AVR. Are you running your Yammy stereo or are you you using an onboard decoder?

It doesn't happen when it is set 7-channel stereo, it happens on the preset "Movie Theater" programs and on Surround Enhanced.
