Vandersteen HT Setup

:) Decided to upgrade my HT setup. While I love 2 ch when music I need a system that will do both.

I am stuck on Vandersteen speakers and have Model 2's right now. I plan to get the VCC-1 Signature center and eventually get a set of 3A-Sigs and move the 2's for rear channels.

What are some nice amps that can power the 3A's? I think that I prefer a 5 channel that will be used for the front and center and then use two old HK Citation 12's to bi-amp the rears.

Also, any suggestions on Processors? I have a Denon AVR-200 right now but want to upgrade.

Tanks for any help.

I am using an Adcom 7605 which I am very pleased with. There are several sites that are authorized to sell. Their amps are very impressive. :)

Thanks

I started looking at the Sherbourn 5/1500A and the McCormack DNA HT 5 as well.

Appreciate the info.

I have Vandy 3a sigs with VCC1 sig and VSM1 sig rears with two 2Wq subs. I drive it through a B&K 7520. I think the McCormack and Sherbourn are also excellent choices. By the way, since both 2ce and 3a sigs are biwirable consider a 7 channel amp and biamp them.

A word on center channel with Vandersteens. The main speakers omage so well that I usually watch movies with the center off unless there are more than two of us. If I sit in the sweet spot the dialog is just fine. You could save some bread by getting the cheaper center (VCC1 non sig) or omitting it entirely depending upon your movie viewing habits. Congradulations. These are GREAT speakers.

I use the B&K reference 30 prepro. Newer versions are now available. I am extremely pleased with it. What are you doing for subs? The Vandersteen subs may be the best part of the system.

McCormack Pre and power amps are really great. Another way to go is Audio by VanAlstine - avahifi.com. I don't think they have surround processor, but their amplifiers are amazing.

Enjoy those Vandys - truly great sounding, classic speakers!

Thanks for the comments.

I plan to do a 5 channel amp instead of a 7 to save some cash. Maybe not the best idea? I plan to use the 5 channel to biamp the front speakes and a set of HK Citation 12's to biamp the rear Vandersteen 2's eventaully when they move out of the front position. Since I have the equipment I thought that was most economical.

So the final system would be Vandersteen 3a Sigs or 5's in front that are biamped. A VCC-something as center and the two Vandersteen 2's in the rear.

Since you have Vandersteens, and are planning to add more Vandersteens, I suggest you go to audioperfectionist.com and consider subscribing to Richard Hardesty's newsletters. At the least, check out the free ones.
