yes, same thing.

Usually the RX-V has a zone 2 output, and the Yamaha Lettering is in gold. Other than that, they are identical. So the question is, do you need zone 2 output?

actually..i think I do..

although.. is it posssible to run a similar setup without the 2 zone output?

what i was going to use it for is, my HT room is above my garage, and we have it wired so there are 2 speakers in the garage to listen to music etc. whenever we are working in there, this was origionally going ot be wired into the receiver

without the 2 zone thing, is it still possible to switch over to these 2 speakers in the garage without running the HT speakers?

Interestingly, I was asking the same sort of question about a week ago.
The upshot of it is, Yes, the receiver still has the A & B speaker outs, so you can select whether you are running the A or B speakers. For you to use the Zone 2, you would actually require an additional amplifier. To stop your sourrounds & sub from playing with the B speaker set, you'd need to put the receiver into STEREO mode.

See the comparison chart here: http://www.yamaha.com/yec/compare/Detail.html?compitem1=&compitem2=552123&compitem3=547398&CTID=5000200&VNM=LIVE&B_compare.x=21&B_compare.y=15&comp_items=547398&comp_items=552123

Yamaha receivers

I have a Yamaha HTR-5860 and connect the line-level Tape output to an amp for my distributed audio system. Unlike a receiver w/ Zone 2, the main HT and the house speakers are always playing the same source. Y

ou can use an old receiver or an inexpensive stereo amp ($60) to drive the garage speakers with the HTR receiver, but it might be more convenient to have the Zone 2 feature built in.
