Using Receiver Just For Surround / Back Channels

Hi There,

I have the following gear:

Outlaw Audio 976 Processor (7.2 Preamp/Processor)
Outlaw Audio Model 5000 Amp (5 X 120W)
Yamaha HTR-5860 Receiver (7.1 X 95W)
Def Tech Speakers all around

I have the Outlaw gear set up for 5.1
I want to incorporate the Yamaha receiver for just the 2 Surround / Back channels. However, I cannot figure out how to get the connection right. I have the Surround/Back speakers connected to the Receiver's speaker terminals, and I tried the Receiver connected via the Pre-Outs, and, alternately, to the Multi-Channel Outputs - to no avail.

Your recommendations are greatly appreciated.

Thx,

Tom

You should be able to use the Yamaha’s Multichannel inputs for this.

Send the Outlaw’s surround back outputs to two of the Yamaha’s Multichannel inputs. The main Left and Right is probably best, so connect the speakers to the Left and Right speaker terminals.

Make sure the Yamaha is set for the Multichannel input.

And make sure the Outlaw is set for 7.1. You said it was currently set for 5.1.
