Using Receiver as Pre-amp?

Hi All,

Right now I’m having Denon AVR 1907 and plan to upgrade my speaker system to B&W 600 series (2 DM602, 1 LCR600, 2 DM600. Per my search, I know my Denon receiver can’t do their job to push B&W speakers. Thereefore I plan to buy Rotel RMB 1075 power amp and use my receiver as pre-amp. Is it okay to do it? Will the sound differ if I use Rotel pre-amp (they’re really expensive) instead of my Denon?

Thank you very much in advance for your help.

Amp upgrade

Those B&Ws should be a nice upgrade, even with your current receiver. Their 8 ohm load is not perticularly difficult to drive, but if you have a huge room, and play it really loud then you might find your receiver lacking.

If you want to experiment with an amp upgrade for the mains, check out the Behringer A500 for $180. Rotel builds great amps, but one of the Mid-Fi Denon receivers like the 3806 should have comparable 2-channel power ratings and a better pre-amp stage than your current one.

The Rotel Preamp should sound better, but not in leaps and bounds in home theater.
