using PRE-OUTS for adittional amplification

I have at question.... I pumped my Mirage M-5 ( 89db roof eff. ) with the 3805 in pure direct stereo mode all the way up. 0db..... loud, but not enough for a large room....

I have a REGA BRIO stereo amp, is rated at only 35 watts per channel. This thing sounds heaps better, and I only need to turn the dial to about 40% to reach a painfull level of sound.
Timbals on the Stravinsky's "rite of spring" really shake everything, all from the 6" woofer in the M-5.

On the Denon at 100% volume I could not get this.....

Can I use the pre-out for the main stereo ( m-5) with the REGA , and still benefit from all the features
of the Denon, INCLUDING the mic Autosetup ??? will the pre-out channels have some kind of delay?
or the other way arround?

This way the Denon will drive the center, back surrounds and the REGA for the main fronts + sub out for the active subs....

Thanks in advance!

Ant.

I hope I understand this. Personally, I currently have a Yamaha RX V2400 and an Adcom GFA-7605 power amp. Essentially, I am using the Yamaha as a pre amp. By running RCA cables from the Yamaha’s pre-out to the Adcom I power my front, center and surround speakers with the Adcom. The rear surround speakers are powered by the Yamaha. Since the Yamaha is now only pushing two speakers, its per channel power output is also increased (120 x 2 vs. 65 x 7.) If this is what you are talking about it is definitely possible and achievable.

I hope this helps.

 yes, but can you still use the ypao featues even if you are running in hybrid mode??

I did not use it in the first place. I rather do it manually. When I set up the Adcom I calibrated the speakers and set speaker levels and distance through the Yamaha, but I did it manually. I do not believe there should be that great of a difference. Frankly I don’t really trust YPAO.

So you can still use all EQ and DSP performed by the Yamaha and send it through the PRE-outs ?

Did you experienced any delay between the yamaha amped and the other amp channels?

Cheers,

Ant.

I've used only pre-outs to a 2 channel amp, with 2 speakers. Auto setup, equalization, virtual surround, etc., can be used with the external amp. All that stuff happens before amplification, and appears to simultaneously be sent to pre-outs and internal amps.

After less than a week, so far I prefer direct without EQ to the heavily EQd settings from autosetup. Might change my mind if I were using a full surround set.

If you are going to use external amps you should run YPAO with the amps connected since the gain might be different from the yamaha internal amps, and the mic would feed this info back to the receiver for analysis and appropriate adjustment.
