My TV only has 1 1080 component input, no HDMI. So, I need this one input for my receiver output.

If I sent component video to my Denon 3808 and an HDMI cable, could I choose to use the video from the component input and audio from hdmi?

Reason:
...........I heard that I can only get the new audio formats with the hdmi cable.

I will leave this simple as this for now, if you need more info let me know.

Thanks

First step:

Can your receiver decode these new formats, which are only available on high definition discs?

Check your manual for this.

Also, it should contain the answer to your initial question.

It can decode these signals but only through hdmi.

I have my br-dvd hooked up with component and teslink(?) cables. So it doesn't work this way.

send hdmi from disc player to receiver then send hdmi to a hdmi to component converter, which will then output component cables

That is exactly what I would like to do, however, where do you get one of these? I found one on the internet and the seller admitted it would not work because:

There is a code, in the signal, called HDCP(?) that is sent out through the hdmi cable and if your TV does not respond somehow to this signal the video will shut down after a few seconds.
He also told me it is illegal to make such a devise, but that they do have them in Europe. He said the ones in Europe alter this signal to make it appear that the TV is HDCP compatible.

We need an expert on this HDCP. I'm thinking this might mean High Def Copy Protection (?)

If this is possible, it would make all of us Mitsubishi owners happy. The ones that bought TV's w/ a promise that they would be kept up to date.
