Using Elac UC5's as LR Stereo

Hi guys,

I've been wondering if it would be a good idea to use two Elac UC5's (or other MTM center channels) as the LR speakers.

On paper, the UC5's have a tad higher low end (at 48 Hz) than the UB5's (at 46 Hz). Based on this alone, it would seem like the UB5's would be the better choice.

But, what's not known is the frequency response across the spectrum. Given the additional woofer on the UC5's (and most other center channels), I would think using the UC5's would provide a better experience.

What do you guys think? It seems to me like a half way between UB5's and UF5's as the LR speaker?

It will work. Generally what you get from an MTM is more midrange output, not necessarily deeper bass. You won't notice the difference between 46 Hz and 48 Hz, but looking at the sensitivity of these two, I don't see the expected increase in sensitivity for the additional driver. To me that's the benefit of a larger bookshelf, is the additional output.

I'd go listen to them first if you haven't heard them as well. One of the users here reviewed the UB5 and wasn't impressed at this price poitn, so I'd say look at something that's proven to perform in addition to these.

Might consider the Ascend 340SE, too. Not impressed by Elac reports so far...
