Using a Quad L-ite soundbar for center channel

Hi everyone, I have been using a quad l-ite sound bar for some time now (quad-hifi.co.uk/Series.aspx?lang=En&Tab=L-ite%20Plus%20LCR%20Sound%20Bar]L-ite Plus LCR Sound Bar Quad), but I am upgrading and building a real home theater system. The only problem is that I can only fit a center channel that is about 5.5 inches tall and 5.5 deep. The quad will fit perfect.

So, my question is can I use it as a center? It has three separate inputs on the back for left, right, and center. Could I just have all three connected as center or will this be bad?

If that won't work, any recommendations for a high end center?

Thanks

Welcome to the forum!

You most definitely can use that soundbar as a center speaker. If I'm interpreting the pictures and the owners manual correctly, that soundbar is essentially three speakers within a single cabinet. So, you can connect each speaker separately and still have it work. If you have one set of speaker outputs for the center channel (for example, on a typical A/V receiver), then you'll want to only connect to the center set of speaker terminal on the soundbar. You don't want to split speaker-level connections to the three sets of connectors on that soundbar.

However, if you are going to use an external amp (or amps) and you have three power channels that you can devote to the center speaker, then you could split the center speaker pre-amp output from your receiver (or processor) into three inputs to the amp, then run three speaker-level connections to the soundbar.

Does that make sense? In a nutshell, you can easily connect just the center speaker connections on the soundbar. If you want to use all three connections, then you'll want three amplified channels to run each separately.

Thanks for the welcome. What you said makes total sense. I have an Onkyo NR708, so only one unpowered and one powered center output. Guess I will start looking for a new center channel. Probably the best weekend to do that.

P.S. This is a better forum than the other one I was on back around 2001-2005 which is the last time I really played in this area. I went to that forum and it is totally dead.
