Use Martin Logan Motion 40 as a center channel?

I have been thinking of getting the Motion 50XT center channel speaker to compliment my Motion 35xt bookshelves and Dynamo 1000W Subwoofer. However, it's quite pricey. I found a single Motion 40 standing speaker on Craigslist for $400 (about half a new 50xt). Any reason I couldn't use it as a center channel speaker? I would probably lay it on its side.

I wouldn't. The tweeter is at the top so it would be strange having one at the extreme right or left and a pair of woofers opposite. Save up and get the right one, or keep checking eBay, Audiogon and US Audiomart websites for a used one cheap.

Wouldn't it be the Motion 30 center that would be a better match anyhow?

Thanks for the reply. Hm, I'm not sure if one center is supposed to paired with a certain set of Right/Left fronts, I hadn't even thought of that.
