Use head phones & speakers at same time

I just got my Yammy rx v659 last night:D. I got it setup & am trying to find a way to use headphones while running the speakers. My Gf is going deaf & needs the HPs to hear anything while watching tv or movies.

I was using a yammy rx v430 & was able to accomplish this by using an audio out rca jack. This worked for both tv & dvd's.

When I hookep up to the audio out (rec port) on the 659 I was only able to mono & only from the tv didn't work with dvd player.

any thoughts?

wyllisx1, first...congratulations on the new gear!

I downloaded the owners manual and started to check it out, but then I realized that I should have asked some questions:

1) Which audio out jack(s) are you using with the v659?

2) Which audio out jack(s) where you using on your v430?

3) You're only getting mono from the TV and nothing from the DVD player. Is this true only for the headphones, or is it also happening with the main speakers?

Also, just curious, which headphones are you plugging into the receiver?

Thanks really like it, its a big upgrade from the 430.

from memory-not home atm (knew I should have brought the manual in with me today:eek:

shoot can't remember...

on the 430 I was just using the rca jacks labeled audio out under dtv cbl.

The headphones are Schienhauser (sp?).

I do have sweet sweet 5.1 sound setup with my speakers though. Haven't decided wether I'll use the 2 other speakers yet for 7.1.

I did the same thing with an older Onkyo at her house that isn't setup for ht but at least we can both watch together & hear.

Most receivers work similarly for audio out:
- Only analog input signals will be sent out the analog audio outs. If the DVD player were connected using a digital cable only then you would not get sound from any of the analog outs.

- Analog audio coming in to any AV jack (has both audio and video jacks) will be sent out all audio out jacks at the same time - with a catch: If the AV jack has both ins and outs it won't send the audio out the same jacks; ie if you have an AV input like 'Video 2' that has both ins and outs and were to connect a dvd player's audio and video to the inputs, it will not send the audio out of the the same Video 2 jacks (because that would create a feedback loop).

- Audio only input/output sets, like Tape, are always active. Use the tape out if it exists.

I have been using Md R cd out rec port.

I'll give it a shot on the DVR out ports. Thanks for the help.
