How do I make my Sony CRT HDTV look great with my DishNetwork SD signal?

Do you know anything about upscaling?

I am trying to find a cheap way to improve the signal from my SD Dishnetwork reciever into my Sony. The picture from the reciever is crap depending on the programming. Just a thought.

Thank you so much for your time concerning these matters.

I hope to extend the same to others should the occasion present itself.

With SD its pretty much what you see is what you get. Although having the set calibrated by an ISF tech could garner better pq via SD, but will definitely improve pq via HD/DVD. With your particular display the critical areas of concern are with the convergence, geometry and overscan. More than likely the areas will need to be addressed during calibration. Obviously other parts of the calibration: Grayscale, chroma, gamma etc. will increase performance/PQ as well. You will probably gain a modest increase in pq via SD but a substantial gain in DVD and HD if you have it.

Well, at the very least I would make sure you're using component cables rather than composite or s-video. If your tv & Dish box have HDMI/DVI ports then I'd go that rout. But with SDTV, component should do just fine IMO.

Oh and by the way, no need to spend big bucks on monster component cables. :)
