Upscaling Really Important?

I am replacing my rear-projection HDTV with the Panny TH-50PHD8UK,which reportedly has an excellent scaler. In this case, why should I worry about getting the Yamaha 2600 over the 1600 or another good receiver with upconversion but no upscaling? What other benefits would I see?

Thanks

If the tv has a good scaler, then don't bother spending the extra money on the 2600 over the 1600. I got the 1600 and couldn't be happier with it, there are only a few other small extras the 2600 has that the 1600 doesn't, and to me it definitely isn't worth the extra few hundred dollars.

If you don't have multiple HDMI sources . . .

Then you can save even more money and buy the RX-V2500 model for $7-800. Put the money you save towards better speakers or a sub.
